A wonderful introduction to this stunning and still often traditional Southeast Asian country. Our Vietnam tour, Hanoi to Saigon, combines many of the country’s essential sites and some of its hidden places with a wide variety of destinations and landscapes. Beginning in Vietnam’s elegant capital Hanoi and finishing in bustling, vibrant Saigon our tour includes World Heritage Hue, charming Hoi An, the dramatic scenery of Halong Bay, Ninh Binh Province with its UNESCO World Heritage, Trang An landscapes and the picturesque Mekong Delta.

Discover the country’s past and present: ruined temples of the Cham Empire, glorious pagodas and royal tombs of the Nguyen Dynasty, the more recent, tragic sites of the Vietnam War and the friendly people, exotic cuisine, fantastic landscapes and exciting cities of Hanoi and Saigon.

DAY 1

Hanoi Sightseeing

Walking tour in the old quarter and visits to the Temple of Literature (Van Mieu) and Tran Quoc pagoda.

DAY 2

Hanoi - Halong Bay

Drive to Halong Bay. Board a refurbished wooden sailing junk for a cruise through the limestone cliffs and emerald waters of Halong Bay. Drop anchor for the night nearby a remote island. OVERNIGHT ON JUNK.

DAY 3

Halong Bay – Hanoi

Spend a half-day cruising through quiet waters, stopping to visit colourful grottoes and swimming near deserted beaches. Return to Hanoi in the afternoon.
Arrival in Hanoi. In the afternoon enjoy the Water Puppet Show.

DAY 4

Hanoi - Ninh Binh

Morning program: visit of the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum with the garden and stilt house.

Drive to Trang An, situated in an area full of vast ricefields, limestone rock formations and caves. Upon arrival you make a trip on small rowing boats through the spectacular area, followed by lunch in a local restaurant.

In the afternoon you go on a bicycle trip thru the ricefields where you will see the locals at work. (Lunch)
After free dinner, transfer to Ninh Binh railway station for overnight train to Hue. (air-con cabin/ 4 persons per cabin).

DAY 5

Hue Sightseeing

Arrival in Hue and transfer to hotel.
(Brunch)

After brunch in the hotel, we drive to the mausoleums of Tu Duc and Khai Dinh. In the meantime you will also learn how typical incense sticks and Vietnamese hats are made.

DAY 6

Hue - Hoi An

In the morning visit the seven-storey Thien Mu Pagoda, the Imperial Citadel, and Dong Ba market. Lunch is included at local restaurant.

Proceed to Danang by car on a trip that is a highlight of central Vietnam. The three-hour drive hugs the ocean coastline, winds through emerald-green paddy fields and climbs over the dramatic Hai Van Mountain pass. And  then  visit the Cham ruins in My Son, 69 km south-west of Danang. My Son is a world heritage site recognized by Unesco in 1999. Drive to Hoi An.

DAY 7

Hoi An Sightseeing

In the morning walking tour: visit the pedestrian part of the town of Hoi An on foot. The Japanese covered bridge was the link between the Japanese and the Chinese communities and is now the main attraction in Hoi An. A visit to an old merchant’s house is also on the programme. The Chinese have always played an important role in Hoi An: the many Chinese community houses bear witness to this. You visit one of the many community houses.

In the afternoon bicycle around Hoi An city to visit villages and see how people grow vegetables as well as their daily life.

Hoi An - Cooking class

In the morning you are free at leisure. In the afternoon enjoy cooking class to see how to make  local specialities and visitor can join to cook also.

DAY 9

Hoi An - Danang - Ho Chi Minh

After breakfast in hotel you will have a transfer to the airport and fly to Ho Chi Minh city.
Lunch included.
In the afternoon you will go to Cu Chi.
Drive to the extraordinary Cu Chi tunnels, just outside Ho Chi Minh City. During the war for independence, “Viet Cong” guerillas built the labyrinth of narrow tunnels virtually underneath U.S. bases, using them to hide during bombing raids and to stage surprise attacks. Depending on the season, visitors can see harvesting or planting of rice fields en route.

DAY 10

Ho Chi Minh - Mekong Delta

After breakfast in hotel, departure Ho Chi Minh City for a scenic morning drive through the Mekong Delta. At My Tho take a boat to Coconut Island. Enjoy a brief walk on the island, trying native fruits and viewing local handicraft production. Continue by boat to Tan Thach commune to visit a family-run enterprise making coconut candies. Take a horse-drawn cart to Quoi Son to visit a bee farm and to enjoy tea and candies. Float on a sampan through the narrow, tree-lined canals of the Mekong Delta. At Qui Island stop for lunch in Ben Tre.

In the afternoon you will return by boat to My Tho. Visit Vinh Trang Pagoda. Return to Ho Chi Minh City in the late afternoon.

Ho Chi Minh Citytour

In the morning you will visit Notre Dame Cathedral, Central Post Office. Walk to Ben Thanh market past the Opera and Continental hotel. Lunch included. Transfer to airport. End of service.
